Indications and outcomes of pneumonectomy for benign diseases: A single-center experience

Background: Pneumonectomy can be used to manage destroyed lung; however, it is associated with a high risk of complications. This study analyzed the outcomes pneumonectomy in patients lungs.
 Methods: The included 28 who had for benign lung diseases from January 2011 December 2017. Descriptive analysis was present patients' demographics, surgical details, and postoperative outcomes. Intraoperative blood loss compared tuberculous vs. non-tuberculous those extrapleural intrapleural pneumonectomy.
 Results: 11 (39%) males, mean age 36.6 ± 9.8 years (range: 5– 61). persistent cough presenting symptom 93% cases, expectoration 78.6%, hemoptysis 46.4%, chest pain 28.6% patients. Indications were tuberculosis 13 (46.4%), septic bronchiectasis 10 (35.7%), invasive opportunistic infections 3 (10.7%), neglected endobronchial foreign body 1 (3.6%), rupture bronchus (3.6%) patient. left-sided 21 (75%) We performed 7 (25%) patients, intra-pericardial isolation 5 (17.9%) two (7.2%) completion pneumonectomy. Mean perioperative bleeding 390.7± 233.8 ml. intraoperative more (P< 0.05). Postoperative complications occurred (25%), we reported one operative mortality. 
 Conclusions: disease challenging procedure. Destroyed due TB are most common indications. outcome could improved careful patient selection, appropriate preoperative preparation, meticulous techniques, care standards.
